What is in your Easter Basket?

Enclosed are pictures of babies I find in the Premie unit at the hospital.  I gave mom's the great little hats you knit for them Cindi and they are so appreciative.  These little ones don't have alot of fat on them yet and we are headed to the cool weather now.  The last one has my hand in it so you can gauge how tiny tiny they are.  If you put them all in a basket they would fit together just like colored eggs.  My version of Easter Bonnets

Born in the toilet warmed on mom's belly and able to suck on her own.  Left the hosp after 2 weeks...

TOM'S JOB AFTER PEACE CORPS

LAUNDRY SUPERVISOR                                                     LOVE FROM ARUA

Arua Rainwater Tanks

Last June I wrote a USAID SPA grant (with much help from Tom) for 3 30,000liter rainwater tanks to be built on the campus of our Nursing School.  During the hot months of dry season often the water is not flowing from the city (the river is dry) and everyone has to haul the 40# full gerry cans of water from a bore hole to their home.  This will help alleviate some of the hauling (and excuses for missing class) for students. The project got started Nov 12 and it is now complete. The rain has now started to fill them...the story in pictures

READ CAREFULLY       MY DADS FAVORITE SAYING WHEN HE WANTED US TO LOAD BLOCK FOR HIS TANKS...

 THE WORK NOW BEGINS.
WE NEED 1000 BRICKS FOR EACH TAN. THE BRICKS ARE MADE OF MARRUM (HERE) CEMENT AND RIVER SAND MIX

ONE BRICK AT A TIME 1 HARD PULL AT A TIME........

 THE PILE GROWS

NOW WE NEED 14 DAYS FOR THEM TO DRY

READY TO LEARN HOW TO BUILD A TANK

LEAH, ONE OF THE HARDEST WORKERS
MAKING THE INSIDE SMOOTH AND WATERPROOF   DID I TELL YOU IT IS HOT HERE? These kids worked so hard in spite of the oppressive heat
THE TANKS WENT UP JUST LIKE LEGO'S.  NOW WE JUST NEED A ROOF

UP ON THE ROOF IN THE HOT HOT SUN OF UGANDA
STUDENTS AT SCHOOL DID SOME OF THE HAULING WATER, MIXING CEMENT, CLEANING UP AND FETCHING TOOLS.  THEY PAID OFF SOME OF THEIR SCHOOL FEES THIS WAY...

EACH TANK WAS TO HAVE A RELIEF APPLIED TO THE OUTSIDE. THIS IS OUR ARTIST FRIEND ADRIKO JOSEPH ADDING COLOR TO ONE OF THE TANKS

SOME FINISHING TOUCHES WITH THE GUTTERING AND WE WAIT FOR THE RAIN

SORRY, I CAN'T SHOW YOU THE RAIN, BUT, WE HAVE WATER IN THE TANK. THE MAN STANDING IS THE ESTATES MANAGER AT THE SCHOOL, DANIEL, (AND A SUPER GUY) WHO THE PROJECT IS NOW TURNED OVER TO FOR CARE AND MAINTENANCE.  THE YOUNG MAN BY ME IS ONE OF THE MASONS, MOSES, WHO LEARNED THE TECHNIQUE USED TO CREATE THE TANK AND WAS VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THE OPPORTUNITY
